Jesse and I have been thinking and talking for weeks about where and how we'd like to live once married. There was talk of my roommate finding somewhere new, and Jesse moving in here come January. We started making plans to make this our apartment, as opposed to my place where Jesse frequents to reduce the food supply and take naps on the couch. We talked about how we'd rearrange the furniture, what colours we'd paint the rooms, and just last Friday bought a mid-century dining table and matching buffet to improve the look and feel living space.
Circumstances required change, however, and Jesse and I began a new hunt. Within 2 days we found what we were looking for: an apartment that fits our budget and needs for space, natural light, outdoor space, and no carpets. Jesse did all the foot work to get the place, since deadlines and demand were pushing for the place. I was even trusting enough to sign the lease and hand it in (with first & last) before I got to see the place with my own eyes!
I finally did get a chance to see the apartment this afternoon. It's a little smaller than I was expecting based on the floor plan and measurements, but after some unnecessary worrying and near-regrets on my part (mostly regarding living space and having to move from an apartment in a house to an apartment in a large building), I can rest assured that Jesse and I will be able to work with what we've got, and I'll just have to adjust to a smaller home.
I can also rest assured that Jesse can be trusted with such important husbandly matters as finding us a decent place to live, all by himself. So no one needs to get their undies all tied up in a knot. Jesse is a trustworthy man, and I will tie the matrimonial knot with him worry-free.
Speaking of which, we're at 76 days until the big day! Yesterday was the two-month mark on our engagement, and today we celebrated 8 months of our relationship. It's kind of nuts to think that we've only been together that long. Heck, it was just a year ago, last Thanksgiving, when I'd first even heard of Jesse! This morning during our breakfast out to celebrate our eight-month-iversary, we talked about what we were each doing one year ago, how quickly time has passed, but how good these past eight months have been. I do feel truly lucky, or blessed, or whatever you want to call it. My life was fine before, but it's SO much better with Jesse Butler around - and not just because he does my dishes!
Back to the apartment: we get it November first. Depending on the roommate situation for my roommate, either I will move in or Jesse will move in, and obviously, come December 30th we will both be there. While groceries and work are a little further away, we'll be closer to both our churches (right in between, in fact), we'll be steps from Dow's Lake and the canal, and we will have a fantastic view of central/east Ottawa. Our apartment is on the south-east corner of the eigth floor, with lots of light, closet space, and a cozy living/dining area. I can't wait to make it our home.
Peace and all the rest,
Kat
